January 2025 - Depo Provera Litigation Update

Depo-Provera, a contraceptive drug manufactured by Pfizer and other companies, has come under intense scrutiny as three more California women have filed lawsuits alleging that its use caused their meningioma brain tumors. One plaintiff from Fontana received the injections for 19 years and ultimately underwent invasive surgery to remove an intracranial tumor. Another woman from Crestline developed severe neurological problems after nine years of using Depo-Provera, only to be diagnosed with a meningioma. A third plaintiff in Cypress was diagnosed with multiple meningiomas after receiving 36 injections over nearly a decade. Her vision became blurred and her quality of life suffered significantly before doctors discovered the tumors.

With an estimated two to three million Depo-Provera prescriptions filled annually in the United States, the concerns associated with this drug may affect a substantial population. A recent medical study has found that users of Depo-Provera may be roughly 5.5 times more likely to develop meningioma than those in the general population. This translates to about 52.25 cases per 100,000 users, compared to 9.5 per 100,000 among the general public. The cluster of lawsuits now emerging across the country could trigger the formation of a multidistrict litigation, most likely in California given the volume of cases already filed there.

As these claims progress in the courts, many women are coming forward with stories of life-altering complications. Phillips & Associates has been monitoring these developments closely and we are actively accepting new Depo-Provera cases from individuals who have experienced similar harm. We believe in advocating for those who have suffered due to negligence, and our team stands ready to help those seeking fair compensation for their injuries. If you or a loved one has questions about the risks associated with Depo-Provera or if you suspect the drug caused serious health problems, contacting a knowledgeable attorney can be an important first step.
